How am I doing?

Original Email Date- August 25, 2011

Hi everyone, I wanted to take a second to send a quick email to let you know how I’m doing.  Most importantly, I’m overwhelmed by the outpouring of support that I’ve gotten from old friends— from St Rose, to MSJA, to Kings, to all the different parts of my life.  You can’t imagine how much an email, card, flowers or even a quick text truly brightens my day.  So from the bottom of my heart, I thank you so very much.

I’ve been doing great in therapy.  Bryn Mawr Rehab is spectacular. I can’t believe I’m lucky enough to get well in a place like this.  The people are happy and upbeat, the place is beautiful, and I get to eat outside on beautiful days to work on my tan.  I’ve been wheeling around in my wheelchair pretty well this past week. It’s nice to have feeling back in my arms to have a sense of independence.

I started Equestrian Therapy yesterday. Yes, that’s right. I got on a horse.  They wheeled me up and lowered me on this beautiful 20 year old animal, Libby, who took great care of me.  Pictures will be forthcoming, as I was insistent that I needed proof of this mastery.  The horse simulates human walking so they are trying to retrain my legs and hips to feel the sensation of walking again.  pretty remarkable.  I’ll be back next week and we’ll be outside doing trails!  So, i’ll be bringing out the cowboy boots for that ride!  Yee Haa!!

I was able to do a flight of steps today, slowly, but surely.  My stamina is pretty low, and I get tired easily, but I’m fighting through. vI have to keep this update short as my hands are getting tired.  Please know, I thank you all for your prayers.  Each and every one is felt.  Keep them coming!

Love you all,
Suz
